RAP is The Hill Center's research-based approach to teaching reading. RAP focuses on the decoding and fluency skills of reading and is designed to be implemented within a 45-60 minute class period with a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio. The program has been piloted in public schools and has demonstrated effectiveness in significantly improving reading skills of students who have struggled with the decoding process. In the workshop, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of the five components of reading and will learn a precision teaching method utilizing charting and graphing of students' progress. They will also learn to use The Hill Center's Reading Assessment instrument to determine the appropriate entry level of instruction for each student.

(Written Language Achievement Program)

Prerequisite: HillRAP

HillWrite is accredited by IMSLEC as The Hill Center's research-based multisensory structured language approach to teaching writing. HillWrite focuses on teaching spelling, handwriting, copying/dictation, and the writing process. It is designed to be implemented within a 45-60 minute session with a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio. During the two-day training for HillWrite, participants will be introduced to current research in the field of writing instruction and learn strategies for closing the gap between research and practice. The Hill Center methodology will be demonstrated, a precision method utilizing charting and graphing of student progress. In addition, participants will learn how to administer the Written Language Assessment instrument to determine appropriate instruction for each student.

Graduate credit may be earned from Adams State College and certification is offered for qualified participants. HillSprings offers professional development for teachers in coordination with and under the supervision of The Hill Center's Professional Education Program (HillPREP), which is an accredited International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) training program. www.imslec.org
